How to update the Findalo module in PrestaShop

· 5 min read · By Ray Rodríguez, founder of Findalo

The Findalo module for PrestaShop gets updated often: fixes, compatibility with themes and new PrestaShop versions, and features that need a piece inside your shop. This post explains how to tell when it's your turn and the two ways to update: from the module itself with one button, or by downloading the ZIP and installing it on top.

Both end up in the same place. You don't lose your settings or your catalogue, and you don't need to uninstall anything first.

How you know there's a new version

Your Findalo panel tells you first. When the module in your shop is older than the latest published version, this amber notice appears:

Module v1.9.7 installed · new version v1.9.9 Download v1.9.9
The panel notice, with example versions. The numbers you see will be your shop's.

It shows up in two places: on the Catalog status card on the home screen, and in the Integration section, next to "Installed module". The Integration entry in the menu also gets an ↑ arrow, so you notice it even when you're on another screen.

The panel can only warn you if the module has told it which version it runs, and it does that when it syncs. If your shop is connected and syncing normally, the notice is reliable. If you see no notice and no module version under Integration either, the problem is something else: the connection. This post covers that.

Option 1: update from the module itself

It's the quickest and the one we recommend. You don't download anything to your computer: the module fetches the new version and installs it.

  1. In the PrestaShop back office, go to Modules → Module Manager, find Findalo and click Configure.
  2. At the very top you'll see this notice:
Update available. Findalo v1.9.9 — you have v1.9.7. Update nowDownload ZIP
The notice inside the module's configuration page.
  1. Click Update now. You'll be asked to confirm, because the module's files are about to be replaced: accept.
  2. The page reloads and you'll see "Findalo updated to the latest version." That's it.

Under the hood, the module downloads the ZIP from findalo.io, checks that it's exactly the one we published (with a fingerprint that has to match) and only then unpacks it over the module's folder. If the fingerprint doesn't match, nothing gets installed.

"Check for updates": when the panel says so and the module doesn't

The module doesn't ask about new versions every time you open the back office: it checks at most once an hour and remembers the answer. If we've just published a version, your panel may already announce it while the module doesn't yet.

In that case, the module's configuration won't show the notice but a discreet line with your version and a link:

Findalo v1.9.7 · Check for updates
When the module thinks it's up to date, it shows its version and the link to check again.

Click Check for updates. The module asks right then, without waiting for the hour to pass, and shows "Checked for updates." If there's a new version, the notice with the Update now button appears on the same screen.

If the automatic update fails

To update itself, the module needs two things from your shop's server: PHP's ZIP extension and being able to download files from findalo.io. Some hosts restrict one or the other. When that happens you'll see "The update could not be completed." with a code in brackets. Nothing has been touched: your module is as it was. Use option 2, and send us that code if you like.

Option 2: download the module and install it on top

It's the classic PrestaShop way and it works on any host.

  1. Download the ZIP. From your Findalo panel, with the Download v… link in the amber notice. You can also use the Download ZIP button in the module's notice: it's the same file.
  2. Don't unzip it. PrestaShop wants the ZIP as it is.
  3. In the back office, go to Modules → Module Manager and click Upload a module, top right.
  4. Drag the ZIP into the window or select it. PrestaShop recognises that Findalo is already installed and updates it.

Don't uninstall the module first. Uploading the new version on top keeps everything. Uninstalling, on the other hand, deletes the module's settings in your shop and you'd have to connect it again.

How to check it worked

  • In the module: when you open its configuration, the notice is gone; there's just the line with the new version and the Check for updates link.
  • In the panel: the amber notice disappears once the module syncs again and tells the panel its version. If you don't want to wait, click Sync now on the Catalog status card. Under Integration you'll see ✓ Module up to date.

If the back office looks odd after updating, clear PrestaShop's cache from Advanced Parameters → Performance, with the clear cache button at the top right. The module already tries to do this by itself when it updates, but some servers keep the old version in memory for a little longer.

If you get stuck

Write to us with the version you have installed and, if the automatic update gave you an error code, that code. With that we usually know what's going on straight away.
